First, Steller. It’s an app I started using recently, and I’m completely hooked. It’s the most visually stunning, sleek and intuitive storytelling app I’ve ever seen. The idea is to create stories with photos, video, sound and text. There are different fonts and layout options that have the look and feel of an uber-stylish coffee table magazine, flipping pages and all.
I usually don’t rave about apps. There are a tiny handful that I use regularly, and even those don’t motivate me to shout from the rooftops. I’m an Instagram fiend, there’s no denying it. I play Cookie Jam more than any healthy adult should. I’ve tested social networking apps other than Instagram and they just never held my interest long enough to make an impression. Steller, however, had me on install.
I decided to break it down. These are the 3 reasons every person with an iPhone should be using this app:
1) You get to use all the photos that never made it to Instagram. You know, the short novel’s worth of shots you took of every imaginable angle of that pie. You’re only going to use 1 or 2 of them on Insta, so instead of letting the rest burn a hole in your camera roll, string them together and create a Steller Story about the pie! Steller keeps those hard-earned photos from going to waste. So awesome.
2) It is truly inspiring. Storytelling is one of the most authentic ways to connect with other people. Face to face, it’s what we do with the ones we love. It’s how we let people know us and how we build real relationships. Online, we have social networks offering bits and pieces of that connection. A quick Tweet or status update can only communicate so much. On Instagram, you get a square-shaped peek into a person’s life with a single caption. But on Steller, you get a walkthrough — complete with photos, text, video, and even audio. It’s immersive. Having access to a worldwide community where full stories are being shared so beautifully and so easily gives people an open invitation to offer their own. Everyone has a story to tell. That belief is the main force behind offbeat + inspired. We believe that everyone was created to create, everyone is unique, everyone has something beautiful to share. We want to inspire people to dig up their dreams and live them, regardless of what anyone else thinks. We want to inspire people to see the beauty in their everyday, as mundane as it may seem — and then to talk about it! Steller is the perfect place to share all of those wonderful details. So far, I’ve created stories about recipes, hardship, style, friendship and trips to the farmers market. Everything fits!
3) The team behind Steller is incredibly passionate, so this thing isn’t going anywhere. It’s only getting better. Version 2.0 was just released and it’s already leaps and bounds ahead of 1.0. The creators are very active in the community, truly sweet, and respond quickly if you have an issue with the app. They genuinely celebrate the stories that are being told and I love that.
So how does all this tie in to the Coffee Ice Cube Latte? Well, it was my most recent Steller Story! I posted it 2 days ago because I saw a roundup of coffee hacks on Buzzfeed and couldn’t believe I’d never done this before. What a perfect way to save old coffee! Freeze it in an ice cube tray, then add milk! I’ve actually been making a Whole30/paleo version with 1/4 cup of coconut milk plus almond milk to fill the glass. It’s fantastic. I’m pretty psyched that the Chemex full of precious FGRoast from 3 days ago will not be going down the drain.
So I went a little photo crazy on this one. My apologies…
Have you tried Steller? What did you think of it? What are your favorite apps? Anything I should be trying? Please share in the comments below! I can’t wait to hear from you!
