“Outfitted” is a new series focusing on fashion and style. For each Outfitted post, I’ll be featuring someone I find utterly inspiring. It isn’t just clothing that stands out to me when it comes to personal style, it’s how garments, makeup, footwear, accessories and the like can be curated with careful and thoughtful intention, and then put together to express something deeper about the wearer. What’s communicated is what draws me in. This series will document that. I’m thrilled to devote the inaugural Outfitted post to my dear friend, Ruthie Lindsey of Ruthie Lindsey Design.
Ruthie’s style is relaxed, earthy and “free”. I adore her use of neutrals with unexpected pops of color and texture. She mixes vintage, one-of-a-kind items with solid basics from favorite brands. I love her ability to gather simple pieces and pair them in unexpected ways to create sweet and cohesive looks. There’s surprising beauty and so much to explore within simplicity. New life can be given to old things. Ruthie communicates this sense of freedom, renewal and adventure clearly from head to toe, and I love it!
[An Interview With Ruthie]
How would you describe your personal style? Americana, boho and classic. I love well-made staple pieces, quality handmade items, and I LOVE vintage! I love using menswear in my looks, like the shirts I pair with my high-waisted jeans, and unisex leather shoes. I wear hats most days and they are often times men’s hats. I do keep it girly though with bright orange lipstick (‘Morange’ from MAC is a favorite)!
What inspires you? I find inspiration everywhere! I’m constantly inspired by my Nashville artist community. I find SO much inspiration in nature and music. I adore 60’s style. I have a ton of amazing old photos of my mom from that era and I would wear every single thing she has on! She was one stylin’, gorgeous lady!
What’s the top item on your wish list right now? I buy one pair of nice jeans a year and wear them into the ground! I would really like a new pair of boyfriend jeans!
What does fashion mean to you? I love fashion as a form of expression! It’s such a great way to show your style, your feel, your way of life. My style and fashion sense is constantly changing and evolving because as a person, I am hopefully always growing and evolving!
