New Year Style

First off, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! As you can see, we’ve been doing a little remodeling around here and we’re so glad we were able to launch the redesign so close to January 1st! If you were a subscriber on our old site, please don’t forget to switch your subscription over on the sidebar by clicking the RSS icon or the “subscribe by e-mail” text. For some reason they made it impossible to bring our entire WordPress family with us so we’re hoping and praying most of you get this message so we don’t lose you forever!

Anyway, to kick off the New Year I figured I would share the outfit I wore to dinner with Dave! There’s a new (to me) brand on the block called Altar’d State and I’ve been absolutely LOVING their designs. They carry labels like Blu Pepper, Free People and TOMS, but they also have an in-house line and a few accessories that send off a nice percentage of profit to children in need all over the world — but that’s only a part of it. They support a bunch of amazing causes you can read about here. In the shop section of their website, they’ve marked the items that donate with a little “Gives Back!” logo which is super helpful!

Now for the dress. I got this from Altar’d State a few months ago, so I’m not sure if they still have it. I can’t tell what brand it is either because the tag shows only an illustration of a sheep! Does this sound familiar to anyone? I should probably call them up and find out. The brand is Black Sheep! I haven’t always been a big fan of tank dresses, but this one is just so cute and comfortable! I love the beaded detailing on the front and the whole thing is lined with an amazingly soft jersey fabric.

If you want to go casual, dresses like this look great with simple tights, boots and a cardigan. For our night out, I dressed it up a little with some JewelMint necklaces and my favorite high-heeled Frye boots EVER. These are the Donna Snap Short in Dark Brown. There’s a “Snap Tall” (knee-high) version too, but the shorts were just too cute to pass up! The leather is soft yet sturdy and the hardware is a lovely antiqued brass. The stacked heel is about 4 inches high, but the slight platform at the toe makes them really easy to walk in.

My makeup for this look was SUPER simple. I’ve been obsessed with the Physician’s Formula Gel CreamLiners. They come in a set of 3 square pots and they glide on SO well and stay all day. In my experience, they are a total dupe for MAC’s Fluidline gel liners. I like to apply them with an eyeliner brush. My foundation is the new Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation and I’m IN LOVE WITH IT. I cannot praise it enough. This foundation has amazing coverage and doesn’t go on cake-y or dry. I got a sample from Sephora and tested it out over the holidays and it held up all day long with only minor creasing — much less than my other top foundations (MUFE HD and Estee Lauder DoubleWear). I would HIGHLY recommend it if you’re on the hunt for a new foundation. I have combination skin (major issues with oil and dryness) but I’ve had no problems whatsoever with this product. On the lips I’m wearing my favorite lip gloss of all time, MAC Plushglass in Bubble Tea. This gloss is a little bit plumping so you get a tingle, but it’s the perfect nude color and the perfect texture. The scent is also amazing! Unfortunately, this shade is discontinued which I found out while writing this post. I’m REALLY bummed about that but I know you can find it on Amazon or eBay if you look for it! For contouring I always use the Hoola bronzer from Benefit. It’s the only bronzer I’ve found that isn’t too dark or too orange for my skintone. My blush is Down Boy from TheBalm which is my favorite shade of pink right now. TheBalm makes wonderfully pigmented powder blushes, so a little goes a very long way.

Well that’s my whole New Years look! We had a great dinner and then headed home for some pajamas, champagne and movies. I’d call that a success!

  1. I want to tell you how much I’ve enjoyed getting your blog. Great fashion ideas. Since you have switched to Feedburner I know I will not receive it. I’m not sure if there is anyone else with this problem but I cannot get any of my subscriptions from them. Every once in a blue moon they pop in and then go away just as quickly….strange situation. I did try to resubcribe but hold out little hope so I just want to tell you “Thanks for Sharing!” Have a great New Year!
