Our Open “Haus” Menu

I recently shared a few creative and simple entertaining ideas inspired by my brother and sister-in-law at their open house for FreshGround Roasting. As that event was being planned I thought, “Why not make this a weekend event and host an open house at our place the next day?”

OK, I’ll admit it was quite busy cooking, cleaning and setting up for two consecutive open houses. But it was totally worth it! We had a great time on Saturday with FreshGround. Then on Sunday, my husband and I invited friends, family and neighbors to our open “Haus” (our play on words since our last name is Hauser).

We mixed up the menu with simple snacks like cookies, fruits, vegetables, cheese and crackers as well as heartier hors d’oeuvres like garlic and sun-dried tomato corn muffins and meatballs.

One of the favorite menu items that day was my sister-in-law’s recipe for baked onion dip (pictured below next to the Parmesan crackers). This is definitely on my go-to list when I’m planning an entertaining menu. Simply serve it with crackers and you’ll definitely have a crowd-pleaser.

What kinds of dishes do you like to make when entertaining? Do you have a go-to crowd-pleasing favorite?

Baked Onion Dip
(Original recipe source unknown)

12 oz. package frozen onions
2 8 oz. packages cream cheese
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 1/2 cups shredded Parmesan cheese

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Spread the mixture into an 8 x 8 baking dish. Bake at 425 degrees for 30 minutes, or until warmed through and edges are slightly golden. You can also prepare the ingredients in the dish the night before, refrigerate overnight then bake before your event the next day.

Serve warm with crackers for dipping. Enjoy!
